Great blog Lyn. I have been telling women this for years. Question your doctor, his word is not law. One of my favorite sayings is what do you call the guy who graduated last in his class? Doctor. If I had a penny for every time a Dr. tried to push Anti-depressants on me for PMS I would be a wealthy woman. Thank you for what you are doing.

As a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) and 3 month old employee of the Piqua Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy I wanted to let you know that this Pharmacy has absolutely taken “Patient Advocate” to a whole new level. I can feel that “care in the air” here at the Medicine Shoppe and am proud to call it my new home. The local pharmacy that I came from did care about people and their residents but nobody cares more than we do and I love coming to work everyday. The personalization that we offer here is out-done by no one.

Saliva testing is a convenient, inexpensive, and above all, accurate means of testing steroid hormones. Scientific studies have shown a strong correlation between steroid hormone levels in saliva and the amount of hormone in the blood that is active or “bioavailable.” Saliva is an ideal diagnostic medium to measure the bioavailable levels of steroid hormones active in the tissue. It is this fraction of total hormone that is free to enter the target tissues in the brain, uterus, skin, and breasts.

Saliva testing can be done anywhere anytime. Testing that relies on blood drawn in the doctor’s office makes it harder to obtain samples at specific times (such as in the early morning) or multiple times during the day. In addition, hormones in saliva are exceptionally stable and can be stored at room temperature for up to a week without affecting the accuracy of the result. This offers maximum flexibility in sample collection and shipment.

One study has shown that approximately 106,000 Americans are killed annually from adverse reactions to FDA approved prescription medicines…and according to many experts, that is an extremely conservative number. And that is deaths…this number does not reflect people who are disabled or injured by FDA approved drugs.

From 1990 – 2005, the FDA reports that 240 people were injured or died due to a compounding pharmacy error (of all the prescriptions filled, not just hormones, etc). That’s 16 a year if you are doing the math and it includes injuries and deaths.

I have been unable to find any claims or statistics that would show any deaths or injuries from compounded bioidentical hormones. But looking at the above figures, arguing that compounded prescriptions aren’t FDA approved actually argues in their favor, not against.

I am so glad you found us! We can help! Wow, I’m lovin’ this one…I’ve been looking for the answers for several years! All my doctors want to do is just drug me up with antidepressants, HRT’S, hypothyroid meds, ADD meds, pain meds, etc! No one really cares what the REAL problems are! No one seems to want to collaborate with each other or even make me understand what all is wrong with me or why! I feel so lost and alone and many days just plain C-R-A-Z-Y! Daily I feel my mind is ALWAYS in a fog, insomnia, little to no libido, memory loss, major to severe depression, muscle pains, severe dry skin, major mood swings just to name a few. It gets worse each year (since my medically necessary full hysterectomy-2004)! I feel like I’m a very productive individual that is trapped inside a body that just doesn’t work anymore or care to work any longer! I am praying that my call to the Happy Hormone Cottage along with testing and consultation will warrant a happy outlook on life again! I just want to be a happy, healthy, productive individual to society, again!

Lord knows those of us in this boat need ALL the help and support we can get during the SEARCHING process!
