WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO AND WHAT SETS US APART June 25, 2013Posted by Lyn in : Hot BHRT Topics , trackback
We sent the email below to 7000 women yesterday as a call to action! Our right to our best health naturally is at stake. And this is why you come to US to help you on your journey to your best health. We aren’t just a compounding lab that fills prescriptions. You can find any number of them to do just that. We go WAY above and beyond that. You see, for us, at our Piqua Medicine Shoppe & Compounding Lab and our Happy Hormone Cottage, this isn’t a business to us. This is our passion and our life’s work. Everything we have ever trained for or hoped to become, we have invested into what we are doing. Jeff has gone back to school to get his advanced Fellowship in Functional Medicine because he could find very few healthcare practitioners to help our women in holistic health. So he went back to school. Someone had to step up. When I finished teaching 6th grade as a public school teacher in 2007, I just wanted to help women. I had gone through a personal health crisis and Jeff saved me in this arena of women’s health and hormone balance. So my intention was to just talk to women about my truth so they heard another option. I knew they wouldn’t hear this at most of their doctor’s offices. I never intended to become a women’s health advocate. But obviously, someone has to do it. When we see policy being instituted, like the one below, that puts women’s health at great risk and takes away our rights, we need to get involved. We are involved in our national organization in Washington D.C. where we have marched on Capitol Hill to meet with our U.S. Senators and Congressmen to protect the rights of women in this arena. We are involved in preventing the passing of Senate bill S.959 which gives the FDA the authority to restrict and eliminate Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. We are in close contact with our U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown and Senator Rob Portman to oppose these bills so we can protect women’s rights to natural hormone therapy. Most days I feel like the David of David vs Goliath and it’s exhausting. But so much is at stake for women!
We are also THE compounding lab that invested thousands of dollars in a piece of equipment (the acoustic Resodyne mixer) that provides the highest quality compounds possible. In fact, we were the first compounding pharmacy in the world to do this. Why? Because we care and we walk our walk every day that shows our passion that women and women’s health are important. This is why we are also the only compounding pharmacy listed in Suzanne Somer’s books as THE compounding pharmacy of choice in Ohio.
I want to personally thank all women who walk with us, believe in what we do and continue to support us every single day. Without you walking with us, none of this would be possible.

URGENT MESSAGE FROM HAPPY HORMONE COTTAGE AND PIQUA MED SHOPPE
Effective July 24th, Tricare will no longer cover compounded BHRT.
I am asking a favor. I rarely ever make a request for help. I save this for when I really need it. This is one of those requests. Saved here is a letter sent out by Tricare Insurance (providers for military and government employees) that informs them that their compounded medications are no longer going to be covered. The letter is complete BS (pardon my french). Compounds not FDA approved is nonsense. Progesterone is FDA approved estradiol is FDA approved, testosterone is FDA approved. Estriol is not FDA approved only because no pharmaceutical manufacturer has found a way to profit from it. It is the most popular estrogen outside the USA because it has studies that show it actually has value in protecting against breast cancer.
This is nothing more than a political ploy by the pharmaceutical industry lobbyist. Compounded medications likely cost the department of defense health care system about 0.1% of their overall healthcare budget so this is certainly not a cost saving measure.
Fortunately Senator Rob Portman is a ranking member of the committee that can change this decision. You are one of 7000 women that are receiving this email. I would love to see his office inundated with phone calls from 7000 angry women asking why this decision was made and what Senator Portman can do to change this decision if he wants to keep his job. This is the perfect example of big government exerting its power over the common people. Frankly I am just angry and sick of it. Dawn and I have devoted the last 10 years of our pharmacy careers in the area of women’s health and hormone replacement therapy. We did this because we recognized that there was a better way to treat hormone imbalance and frankly we thought that woman deserved it. They don’t deserve to be pacified with sleeping aids and anti-depressants and told that they are just getting older and deal with it. They also don’t deserve to be fed synthetic oral estrogens and progestin that have been clearly demonstrated to be unsafe and laden with side effects such as weight gain, irritability, anxiety, etc. The beauty of what we do is that we can customize dosing to meet your individual needs, getting the best possible therapeutic outcomes and success. Lyn, Sandy, and 25 other consultants, pharmacy technicians, and compounders have been on this journey with you, giving 100% of their time, energy and efforts to your best health. This is what you deserve and NO ONE should be able to take this away from YOU!!!! Not the government, not the insurance companies, not the pharmaceutical companies, NO ONE!
So for the next week, I would encourage each of you getting this email to call Senator Portman’s office and tell him your story, how compounded BHRT changed your life, that this decision is just wrong. Ask how to contact other members of the committee to tell your story. Tell your friends and family members to call. 7000 phone calls in one week with the same message can really change opinions and your phone call will make a difference
